Intermittent Fasting on a Keto/Low Carb Diet

I’ll just come out and say it: I’m torn on intermittent fasting (IF). For those of you who aren’t familiar, IF involves daily (including while you sleep) fasting of at least 16 hours. So, you’ll only be eating in an 8 hour window. Often, people reduce this even further. Potentially, this could look like waking up, and not eating until noon, but stopping all eating at 8pm.

Why would someone do this? There’s anecdotal evidence that suggests your body burns calories more efficiently in this cycle, and that it’s better for blood sugar levels and control.  Some people also believe it gives the digestive system a chance to rest. Others are convinced that they eat less when  in a fasting cycle. I’ve had some success combining ketosis with IF, but also some setbacks (huge binges), so I’m not convinced either way.

I’m trying it again (with the 12 – 8 meal window), and can happily report back with the results of this go. So far, at day 3, I’m still hungry in the morning,  but we’ll see. Lots of coffee and water in the a.m. right now.
